Eugene Allen Taylor Eugene has worked in high technology environments throughout his career with humble beginnings as an electronic engineer with the South African Railways rising through the ranks to a director of a large electrical company before moving to the UK in 2002. After many years as the Head of Corporate Business Continuity for VocaLink Limited, Eugene incorporated his own company in January 2012. Eugene started his working career as an apprentice telecommunication technician with the Railways where he progressed through the ranks of section technician, senior technician and finally engineering assistant for the Radio and Telecommunications research & development division. He was head hunted by an electronic design laboratory company as a senior systems engineer. The company supplied bespoke industrial process control and high tech communications and control equipment to government, military and blue chip commercial organisations. Eugene then moved to a large electrical contracting company and implemented a business development program for the electrical contracting and security divisions. Following his success with the reorganising and rationalisation of the Company, he was promoted to Director. Eugene relocated to the UK and spent the first year contracting to various companies before being offered the opportunity to establish the bid management section for global office equipment supplier Sharp Electronics in their UK National Accounts division. An opportunity came up with Voca (formerly BACS) to develop and consult on Corporate KPI’s for the Executive management team. This resulted in his being offered the role of Business Continuity manager. Voca merged with LINK in July 2007 to become VocaLink. Eugene was promoted to the role of Head of Corporate Business Continuity for the group and was instrumental in obtaining and retaining their accreditation to BS25999. Having reached the pinnacle of his career Eugene formed his own company in January 2012 with the aim of providing organisations with advanced tools and products to develop and improve their resilience. In addition to his work career in South Africa Eugene spent 19 years in part time active military service with the South African Defence Force. Until recently Eugene chaired the Business Continuity Institute’s Partnership Steering Group. He currently represents the UK Institute of Directors on the TC223 committee in the UK (and their mirror committees SSM/1 and BCM/1). TC223 (BCM/1) are responsible for the development of ISO 22301 – the International Business Continuity Management standard.
